Community Garden Youth Action Team
Students from the New Directions course at OCVC Banbury have formed a youth action team to bring to reality their vision of transforming an area of rough ground into a Community Garden.
Raised beds, a walled border, disabled access, a poly tunnel, and a seating area are all plans in progress. The planting scheme is yet to be decided, but roses and tomatoes are two of the suggestions made so far – no doubt there will be something for everyone!
I met with the team during June and their enthusiasm for the garden is obvious. The team share a selection of specialist skills, such as brick laying and carpentry. They are working well together to organise their time and plan out their activities and have continued with the project over the summer. This has only been possible due to the support of their tutor Conrad White.
The team hopes that members of the local community will also volunteer and get involved with the garden but for now, they can be very proud of the ground work they have put into the project and feel that they really are making a difference.
I look forward to seeing the team again in a few weeks time when I will be awarding v 50 awards to each one of them. Well done guys.
