why volunteer

Volunteering is giving your time, energy, and enthusiasm, to benefit others, your community, animals, the environment... This could be working outside doing some clearance or looking after animals on a nature reserve, helping at a local hospital, stewarding at festivals, supporting disabled teenagers to dance. We have well over 1000 opportunities across the county.

Although you don't get paid, you still benefit.  You gain experience, meet new people, gain a sense of  achievement and pride, increase self-confidence, and gain a our nationally recognised v award to add to your CV, college application or job application.

As Karen Brady, Managing Director of Birmingham FC & Interviewer on The Apprentice says, "Anybody who volunteers is taking a decisive step in the right direction and taking their career ambitions into their own hands... It's valuable experience, and makes you eminently more employable"

Whatever you're into, we'll try our best to find something you're interested in. We can search by type of organisation (eg children, addictions, animals, disabilities, homelessness, sports) or type of role (eg caring, fundraising, publicity, IT, outdoors, teaching), or both, to find your ideal role.

Or, if you have a great idea for a project yourself, we'll help you get that started and get others involved. Maybe you'd really like a skate park in your town, or a place for you and your mates to hang out, or fundraise for another organisation - check out the youth action teams section on this site.

Our Youth Volunteer Advisers can discuss your skills, interests, career goals and availability. We can even help you get in touch or attend initial meetings with your chosen organisation. Call or email us to
get in touch.
